SASPAS

SASPAS (Safe Anchoring and Seagrass Protection in the Adriatic Sea) is a project funded under the Italy-Croatia Territorial Cooperation Program and is aimed at protecting and recovering Posidonia oceanica grasslands (habitat 1120 *) on the Adriatic seabed .
The project that will be developed over a period of 30 months starting from January 2019, involves the study and implementation of innovative and safe anchoring systems for recreational crafts in the three study sites: Gulf of Panzano (Monfalcone), Kornati National Park (Croatia) and the Brindisi coast of the Dune Costiere Natural Park from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo.
In each site, areas will also be identified for pilot seagrass transplantation.
Guidelines will be produced for the integrated management of marine phanerogams also containing rules of behavior that must be respected by users of protected areas.
The innovative solutions proposed in the Adriatic area may also be applicable in other marine contexts.
The partnership is composed of: Municipality of Monfalcone (Lead Partner), CORILA, SELC, CONISMA, Natural Coastal Dune Park from Torre Canne to Torre San Leonardo, University of Fiume, Kornati National Park (Kornati Islands).
