Making Cities Resilient: My City is Getting Ready!
Cities and local governments need to get ready, reduce the risks and become resilient to disasters.
The Making Cities Resilient campaign, launched in May 2010 by the UNISDR (United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction), focuses on achieving resilient, sustainable urban communities through actions taken by local governments to reduce disaster risk.
What does RESILIENCE mean?
Resilience means the ability to “resile from” or “spring back from” a shock. The resilience of a community in respect to potential hazard events is determined by the degree to which the community has the necessary resources and is capable of organizing itself both prior to and during times of need.

Venice was the first Italian city to have joined the campaign and CORILA is its focal point for the activities related to the campaign.
An interview with CORILA’s Director, Dr. Pierpaolo Campostrini (December 2011)
“We were forced in some sense to develop particular care for cultural heritage protection. For this, we were recognized by UNISDR as a role model for the other cities” (Dr. Pierpaolo Campostrini)
