The European Commission launches a new strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Seas

The strategy has been presented on December 6th during an International Conference in Zagreb. CORILA has been invited to take part to the activities of the Conference and the Director of CORILA presented the maritime “cluster” of Venice.

This strategy is based on 4 pillars: a stronger blue economy, a healthier marine environment, a safer maritime space, and “responsible  and sustainable” fishing activities. It builds on the Commission's Blue Growth initiative and on the "Limassol Declaration on a marine and maritime agenda for growth and jobs", recently adopted by EU Ministers. The aim of the initiative is to make the sea a central space of innovation, economic opportunities and prosperity for all the countries around it. The strategy will be implemented through an “Action Plan” that will be developed in 2013 jointly with stakeholders from the region.

The Zagreb Conference, “Setting an agenda for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth from the Adriatic and Ionian seas”, organized by Croatia in cooperation with the European Commission, gathered together several stakeholders, at national, regional and local level. The objective of the Conference was to present the Strategy and to collect concrete actions for the next Action Plan. Representatives from the eight Adriatic and Ionian countries attended this event. The Director of CORILA, Pierpaolo Campostrini, has been invited to make a contribution in the WG1 related to innovation and competitiveness.
